The DRC is the second-largest country in Africa and has faced a series of crises over the past decades. Complex reasons for DR Congo’s crises include multiple armed groups, a lack of essential services like water or health care, and inadequate roads and bridges that lead to isolation for families living in remote communities. Despite the magnitude of the crisis, there is no simple narrative or easy solution in DR Congo, which may explain why the country does not receive more media attention or funding support.
I was commissioned to travel to the Ituri Province in DR Congo to photograph and tell the stories of the amazing work, projects and staff working in this challenging situation. What a wonderful opportunity!
